No matter what, when Melissa comes into the studio, she’s ready to rock. She will cheer you to your finish line and isn’t scared to push herself to be the hardest worker in the room. And it shows. Not only has she set new PR’s over the past year, and become stronger than ever, but she’s always willing to help and show any new #fixxfam members what our studio is all about.
Plus, you can SEE what all the hard work has done.
We’re so excited to announce that Melissa Nolan is our July member of the month. Give her a high five the next time you see her in class and continue reading to learn more about what keeps her fire burning bright.
How did you first hear about Sweat Fixx?
My BFF Katie Swales convinced me to come with my eyes rolling, as she likes to say.
What keeps you coming back?
The results obviously speak for themselves, but I honestly fell in love with this community. Everyone here lifts you up, both the instructors and other clients. The positive vibe here is addicting. I’ve never been much of a “gym person” but Sweat Fixx is different from other work-out facilities… every single person is rooting for you to succeed.
What’s one thing that you look forward to every time you come to a class?
I look forward to the challenge of getting through each class a little bit better than I did before. I love the fact that every class is different each time I walk through the door.
What motivates you to be stronger?
Just trying live my best life. I have slowly tried to make some changes over the last few years, to walk away from things that don’t bring joy and to do more of the stuff that makes me happy. It’s been a long process, but the big changes really started happening when I started coming to Sweat Fixx. I feel like I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
When you aren’t crushing it on the rower or mat, where can we find you?
My husband Ron, two sons (Jacob, 11 and Matthew, 9) and my black lab Sam take up most of my time. I love the family we created, and my sons are at super fun ages right now. I have a not-so-healthy obsession with anything Boston sports, especially the Red Sox. Of course, I have to work too. I am an RN at Lahey in Burlington, where I recently started a new job.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
80’s hair bands. Seriously though, I don’t have any. Not that I don’t over indulge in things I shouldn’t (beer immediately comes to mind) but I just don’t believe in the guilty part. I don’t believe in dieting, I just don’t feel like it is sustainable for life. For me, deprivation is not the path to success. Does that mean I eat french fries and ice cream all day? No, everything in moderation. Life is a balance. Finding the right balance for you is the key.
What are you most proud of accomplishing since you first came to Sweat Fixx?
Obviously losing 27 lbs is awesome, but I never came with the specific intention of losing weight. Finally hitting 150 meters in 30 seconds was a huge accomplishment for me.
One tip that you would give to someone who is coming to Sweat Fixx for the first time?
Don’t give up on yourself. These workout are really tough, but it is so worth sticking with it. Try to get into a regular routine and you will feel the difference. You won’t regret it, I promise!
Anything else you’d like to add?
I just want to thank this amazing community for motivating me and supporting me every day. I would not be here without all of you! And a shout out to Katie who wouldn’t let me give up on myself!
