This month’s Member of the Month is the type of client everyone wants to be in class with. Not only will Alfonso be motivating you to be stronger, push harder and row faster — he will also be your biggest cheerleader. Alfonso shows up to make himself stronger, but also is there for the support and community aspect of Sweat Fixx Arlington.
Not only does he consistently show up to classes; he supports Sweat Fixx through our events and also helps with some of our video content!
We are so excited to have Alfonso be our Member of the Month and so grateful he is part of our crew!
How did you first hear about Sweat Fixx?
I first heard about Sweat Fixx back in the fall of 2017. I like to search the “Places” tab on IG to see pictures and posts from Arlington. Whenever I searched “Arlington”, IG posts and IG stories would come up from Sweat Fixx. The studio looked so inviting and the rowing aspect of the workout seemed interesting to me.
I was in the midst of some running injuries and I was looking for an activity that could replicate getting my heart rate up like running. I read that rowing was another great cardio workout. After months of seeing the Sweat Fixx IG posts, I finally went in studio to try it out.
What keeps you coming back?
I’ve been a member now for 3 years. I keep coming back because there is a sense of community in the studio. I look forward to seeing my favorite instructors and the other studio members. I look forward to the challenge of every class…you would think after 3 years the classes would be the same, but NO. The instructors do a great job of keeping the exercises fresh and challenging.
What’s one thing that you look forward to every time you come to a class?
The personal sense of accomplishment at the end of class. The Sweat Fixx instructors do a great job of creating a challenging and fun workout in just 45 minutes!
What motivates you to be stronger?
The instructors are who motivate me to be stronger. They all have jobs and responsibilities outside of being instructors. They all write out their classes and they actually do them before they present them to the members. If they can work a full-time job, take care of home life responsibilities and complete their own workouts…then I’m going to do my best to CRUSH those workouts.
When you aren’t crushing it on the rower or mat, where can we find you?
When I’m not in studio…you can find me running in Arlington, Boston, Lowell and pretty much any place I find myself after work or during one of my kids’ activities. You can also find me in the kitchen with an America’s Test Kitchen recipe…I love cooking for my family, friends and neighbors.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Oh gosh the older I get the less guilty pleasures I seem to have. I don’t go clubbing and dancing anymore…I don’t drink alcohol as of 15 months ago. My guilty pleasure must be reaction videos on YouTube. I don’t know how I got hooked on them, but I’m addicted to getting caught in a YouTube reaction-video wormhole.
What are you most proud of accomplishing since you first came to Sweat Fixx?
I’m most proud of completing the 4-week Spring Reset Challenge this past March. The Reset Challenge was half strength challenges from Sweat Fixx and the other half was a healthy nutrition program from Nutrition & Whole Health Solutions. Both aspects of the Spring Reset took me out of my comfort zone, challenged me everyday for 4 weeks and made me a stronger person at the end of the 4 weeks.
One tip that you would give to someone who is coming to Sweat Fixx for the first time?
Don’t worry! Don’t worry about rowing for the first time. Don’t worry about how you look. Don’t worry about not completing an EMOM or AMRAP. This studio does not judge you. This studio wants to help you crush your personal goals!
Anything else you’d like to add?
I can’t say enough good things about the community Elise has created and all the great instructors. They are not intimidating…they are encouraging. They are not elitist…they are approachable. Even though they could probably beat you in a push-up/wall-sit/plank contest…they will never make you feel weak. I’d like to thank every Sweat Fixx instructor for challenging me to get comfortable being uncomfortable.
