Instructor Spotlight: Megan Hennessey

Sweat Fixx is very excited to bring you this instructor spotlight especially since she just CRUSHED the Boston Marathon this past Monday! We are inspired and proud of Meg and love having her on our crew!

From the start of her audition, Meg brought a fire and energy that we knew had to be a part of the Sweat Fixx crew. Her positive attitude on the mic pushes you to be the best version of you every single time you take her class. Did we mention she might have the best playlists?! You will probably dance and sing a little while you are getting one of the best workouts. So what are you waiting for?! Get to a Meg class as soon as possible – you will not regret it!

How did you hear about Sweat Fixx and what made you interested in being a part of the team?

After moving back to the Boston area from New York City during the pandemic, I wanted to find a studio and community that I could be a part of to help push me out of my comfort zone physically and mentally. I was introduced to Sweat Fixx by one of the other badass instructors, Anna Doe, who I have known for many years, as we grew up in the same town! After taking several classes and meeting so many amazing members of the community, I knew I had found something special and had to be a part of this team. I was a college athlete, and ever since my last lacrosse game, I was so nervous that I wouldn’t find the same joy and drive that being part of a competitive, hardworking, and mission-driven team had given me, but boy was I wrong! All those fears disappeared over the past six months, thanks to Sweat Fixx.

What keeps you coming back?

This community. Between the other instructors and all of the clients across all 5 studios, I have never seen anything like the Sweat Fixx community. I remember telling Elise this after my first week of teaching, but I feel so empowered to take this opportunity and platform as an instructor to embody who I am, leverage the competitive edge that drives me, and use that to uplift others in the community. I think everyone who walks in the doors at Sweat Fixx has the same mindset, which is why there is such a strong culture of always pushing each other to get better and stronger every day.

When you aren’t at Sweat Fixx, where can we find you?

When I’m not at Sweat Fixx, you can likely find me in my apartment in South Boston because I basically do everything here now that I am working remotely! I work for Forbes back in NYC and I could not be more grateful for my coworkers who have become family, and the incredible amount of support and flexibility that our company has offered while everyone navigates their new pandemic-lifestyle. I love to escape to Cape Cod on the weekends or go for walks during the day to my favorite coffee/food places in the Seaport when I’m not working.

Where is your favorite place to grab a quick snack or drink?

Loco!! I know I will probably get made fun of for that response, but seriously no restaurant has better chips and guac, tacos, and most importantly, spicy margaritas!

Favorite guilty pleasure?

Grey’s Anatomy. Yes, I have watched all 17 seasons fully through 3 times, and yes, I still cry every time Derek Shepard dies.

What’s one thing about you that people would NEVER guess?

I’m running the Boston Marathon! The reason I think people would never guess this is because I used to actually cry at the thought of running more than 5 miles. For some reason long distance running was never my thing, but more recently I’ve grown to absolutely love it and am excited to really challenge myself in October and run 26.2!

What’s one thing you are most proud of accomplishing in the past six months?

Working here at Sweat Fixx! While the pandemic brought tremendous challenges to everyone over the past year and a half, I also think it was such a transformative period of time where we had the opportunity to slow down and reflect on priorities, goals, and what makes us happy. I always loved the idea of blending two of my passions – helping people and fitness – by working at a studio where community and competition always come first. Putting yourself out there is always scary and change is always intimidating, but I am really proud that I took the leap of faith to audition at Sweat Fixx because the opportunity to continue to learn and grow from so many strong and supportive people definitely outweighed my fear of failure!
One piece of advice you would give to someone who is walking through the Sweat Fixx doors for the first time?
One piece of advice I’d give to someone walking through the doors for the first time is get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Whether that means being uncomfortable because you have never used a water rower before or because you don’t recognize any faces in the room, I truly believe the only way to get better is by pushing through whatever is holding you back from believing in yourself! Talk to your instructors, talk to other people taking class, ALWAYS look to hit a new PR, and never be afraid to add more weight. We are all in that room working together as a team, so lean into the uncomfortableness and to the people standing next to you, and I guarantee you’ll be pleasantly surprised how you feel once class is over :).
