We are uncertain if there is anyone across all 5 studios that loves a challenge more than this Member of the Month, Carla Dropo.
Carla might be the first off the rower (seriously, she is FAST!) but she will also be the first to cheer on everyone else in the room. She is a humble competitor and a huge part of the Beverly community; her positive energy is always felt throughout the entire room.
Carla can hold a plank like a BOSS, has one of the lowest split times (and can hold it there for some serious distance) and has qualified for the Pro Bowl all 3 years! We are so lucky to have her as part of the crew!
How did you first hear about Sweat Fixx?
I first heard about Sweat Fixx through an article and picture in the local paper. I was intrigued with the unique rowing element in most of the classes since I had done some indoor rowing. I did not join right away, but after I bought my initial 3-class introductory package, I was sold on the supportive environment.
What keeps you coming back?
Creative and challenging workouts, encouraging and engaged instructors, and the feeling of a supportive and fun community all working toward a common goal.
What’s one thing that you look forward to every time you come to a class?
The positive energy and camaraderie. Regardless of what time of day that I attend class or what frame of mind I am in when I come to class, I can always depend on the instructors and clients to lift me up and pull me through until the last song ends.
What motivates you to be stronger?
I enjoy the challenge and discipline that is necessary to build and maintain physical strength. When my fitness level is high, I feel better prepared and confident to address the challenges that arise in my life. My two extremely intelligent, creative, and athletic daughters, Sarah and Nicole, also help to keep me focused and motivated on realizing my current and future fitness goals.
When you aren’t crushing it on the rower or mat, where can we find you?
I began swimming competitively at a very young age and continued on this journey through college at the University of Connecticut. Therefore, when I am not attending a Sweat Fixx class, I am either working at Salem State University with first generation students, swimming in the pool, swimming in the open ocean in Gloucester with a wonderful group of adventurous friends, or swimming as part of my Swim Across America team to raise money for cancer research, prevention, and innovative treatments.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Richardson’s Coffee Oreo Ice Cream!
What are you most proud of accomplishing since you first came to Sweat Fixx?
I am most proud that I am working hard to focus on form instead of just speed when I am rowing or completing strength exercises. I can get caught up in the moment, but I realize that proper form is vital to avoiding injuries.
One tip that you would give to someone who is coming to Sweat Fixx for the first time?
I would tell them that Sweat Fixx is a very inclusive and encouraging fitness studio where everyone is welcome and respected. I would offer that if they are willing to open themselves up to accomplish their own personal goals, then they will be rewarded with that extraordinary and priceless feeling of self-fulfillment.
